1. Since Anril 1951 the Soviet 68 Airbo.'no Division has been in Tientsin,
training Chinese Communist troops in that area.1 This division, which is
known as a raider division# was originally one of six raider divisions under
the command of the Soviet 68 ArrTy Grow) in the east coastal area of Siberia.
In early Atag;ust the corraniiin,g officer of the 68 Division was Major General
Ko-fu-ssu-te (` ~` ~ #4 j t,) `?Govstyev). In early August the division cor >
prised six -oar acroon battalions frith a total of 120 officers and 2,304 pen.
There were four co-ranies in each battalion. four nlatoonl in each cornany,
four squads in each vlatoon owl six enlisted men in each egv a,d. The
following were supporting; elements: Six battalions (sic),Z a total of five
artillery and engineer companies, and two motor vehicle cor anies.
2. Before late July two Chinese Corr^unist airborne army groups (sic) had already
been or anizefl, one in Tientsin f,ni3. the other in Manchuria. Hach grou'n had
three airborne divisions. One of the ggrouns was former' frorr, troops selecteri
frorr the 4 field Ar-,y alone. .3ot'i grouns were trained by Soviet airborne
troo-os. One of the groups was sent to North Korea in early July.
