10 At 11:15 on 15 dune 1951, about 40 single-engine ground ttack aircraft were ob-
served at the southern edge of taaken airfield. There moo no flyinn. About 60 non
wore assembled around large tables at the southwestern elne of the field; a
briefinn atas apparently being hold there. On 22 June at tO a.m., about 20 grsund
attac aincraft with yellow propeller hubs and white-tip:nd tail aseemblies were
narked at the southern edge of the field along Heerstrasee. * The white numbers
5p 9s 22 and 25 were identified on the tail aseedblies. another 20 ground attack
planes with rod propeller hubs were parked in front of tLe hannors in the south-

2. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.rn on 4 June, seven twin-ongine tranenorts fitted with a non
-
retractable tail wheel and a door on the left side of the fuselage practiced flying
at Staken airfield. Two of the planes mere narked with the white nunbers 2 and 3
on their tail asteA)lies. Their rudder asemblies were narked with the previously
observed white rectangles. Flying continued until 11 p.nn aith the aircraft using
their landing lights. From 6 to 6:30 a.m. on 6 June 1951, six transports landed
and fire others took off from the field. * After 6:35 a,nn another four transports
took off. They all were of the sane type as those obeervnd on 4 Juno 1251. Throuch-
out tha day about 12 transports were flying circles over the field0 One of these
planes Aan marked with white number 3 on its tail aseept'Ay. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
on 7 JAI13 1951, apnroximately 20 ground attack aircraft nracticed individual local
flights and also in groups of five. The tips of the tail aeeenbliee of all the
planee mere painted white. Fou 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on 0 June, 29 ground attack
planes were observed at the southern edge of the field. '-i;hey had blue, yellow -
brown rad white propel1er hubs but all of then had white tips on their tail
assenblion. Twelve other planes of the same type were panked in the northeastern
corner of the field. It was also observed that each of the four masts of the
radio :Jr13ta1lation in the southuestern corner of the field, about 250 meters
distant from Hanturer ChausLee, was fitted with three insulators and that there
was an antenna on the roof of the wooden shed.** loaded with
laundry entered the field.

3. About 730 a.m. on 9 Junes 36 around attack aircraft were parked in
front of the hangars. The hanear with tho weather observation tower
was open and empty. Tmo transports were seen in, the last hanear
located on the east side of the field. A fuel rentainer with a capacity
of about 15s000 to 20,003 liters was lying near the fuel dump at the
north side of the inetallation. From 7 a.m. to 12240 p.n. on 12 Junes
there ems flying with about 20 IL.3.0s. The tips of the tail assemblies
of all the planes were painted white. About 1,0a5 a.n. the planes marked
with the white numbers 37, 38, 39 and 40 and aeIlor-brown propeller hubs
took off in flight foreation. About 10:40 a.m. the four aircraft marked
with the white numbers 200 21s 220 and 23 and white propeller hubs took
off. At 1130 a.ae the planes with the white nembers 2 and 47 took off,
In addition there was intensive local f1yin1L., All the aircraft observed
had craws of two. At 5230 earn. on 13 Junes tmr transports took off together
ind headed weet. Every 10 to 15 mieutes the elanes ae Toached from the
east but did not land The last approach was rode at 7210 a.ma Three
transports took off in fornation at 7:40 a.e. and made local fliehts. The
rud'ier assemblies of the planes were marked with the white nembers 2230
and 7, and by two white rectangle one above :.110 others on the rudders.
Flying stopped at 9:35 a.m. At 9245 p.m" two transportss apearently of the
same type as previously obeerved0 took off toeether aud practiced circles
over the airfield until 11 p.me with their ruin: liehts on. Flyine
continued thronehout the night.

About 3;15 p.m. on 21 Junes three transports of a type not provioualy
observed in ataaken took off from the field and headed rest. Each of the
transports was towine a careo glider. The transeorts were twinaengine
low-wing monoplanes fittod with radial eneinee; the leading edges of their
wings were straight while the trailing edee oes tapering. The rudder was
almost half the side of the tail assemblys war: painted yellow-brown and
marked with a brown number ene of the transeorts had the number 23 and
V33 also towing a cargo glider. It could not 'te deternined whether the
craft was fitted with a nose or tail wheel since the landine gear was
retracted. The cabin of the cargo glider was located rather far forward of
the wings and projected high above the fnselaee. The single rudder assembly
was high and angu1ar,,4Ht*
6. About 730 a.m. on 23 Jnnes 22 aircraft were observed earked in two rows
facing each other, nine ground attack elanes eith whiteatipeed tail
assemblies and white propeller hu 'es wore enrked in front of a hanear.
Another three eround attack planes wore parked ceparately. One b.elane and

part of the field. The fuel container observed on 9 June was still

wesb by three tvrineengine planes towing cargo. Gliders at an altitude
of about 300 meters. The gliders were released', when the planes were
abut over the weetern boundarz of the field_ The tow line, which
INT13 about 75 meters long, was not dropped even when the twin-engine
planes landed.. The cargo gliders landed after flying half a circle
over the field. Their landing ren was about 20 meters. The twin-
engine planes were low-wing moneplanes which bad a wing span of
ae leeze 35 meters, They had a straight leadirg edge and a
taperieg trailing edge; the wing tips were mended off. The planes
were fitted with two suspended radial engine e with radiators
attached on their under sides. The rudder aseembly w.s in line
with the end of the fuselage and had the shape of an isosceles
triengle, the rear half of whech vas painted yellow-brown. The
pit no had a tricycle landing gear with the nein gear under the
lir'Jigs The craft was silver. The zezkings were not seen. The
lerge cargo gliders were high-winn monoplanee with a thick
fuselage which did not teper. They had relatively small tail
Aseemblies and wing spans of 25 to 27 neterse Their landing gears
were rubber-wheeled and the gliders were provided with a dark
almost black coat of paint. By 11 p, m, neither the transports nor the,
gliders had taken off again. e-er At least 26 ground attack planes
were Observed parked in front of the hangars at the southern edge
of the feeld. They had white-tipped tail aseeeblies and white

bordered Soviet stars on their rudder aseemblies. The Soviet star
on the fuselage was not surrounded by a white stripe. :alto numbers
were seen by the side of the Soviet star, As far as could be made
out the aircraft had red propeller hubs
8, A radio enstallation with four mastel each,abeut 7 metces high and
with a hut ir their middle, was observed in the southwestern corner
of the feeld, about 50 meters from the end oi the runway. A similar

field was observed passing along the southern border

9,, At 1 p.m.., on 22 June, three twin-engiee aircraft were observed over
Luckenwalde. They flew over the town Ead healed east at an altitude
of about 400 meters Each plane was toeing a eargo glider. The wing
span of 'she cargo gliders was only 1 or 2 neeers shorter than the
ming span of the towing aircraft.

aircraft of this regiment. An air transport regiment equipped with
LI-2 planes is also stationed at the field. Irrom the information
contained in paragraph 4 of the present report it is inferred that
