Twelve other planes of the same type were panked in the northeastern corner of the field. It was also observed that each of the four masts of the radio :Jr13ta1lation in the southuestern corner of the field, about 250 meters distant from Hanturer ChausLee, was fitted with three insulators and that there was an antenna on the roof of the wooden shed.** loaded with laundry entered the field. About 730 a.m. on 9 Junes 36 around attack aircraft were parked in front of the hangars. The hanear with tho weather observation tower was open and empty. Tmo transports were seen in, the last hanear located on the east side of the field. A fuel rentainer with a capacity of about 15s000 to 20,003 liters was lying near the fuel dump at the north side of the inetallation. From 7 a.m. to 12240 p.n. on 12 Junes there ems flying with about 20 IL.3.0s. The tips of the tail assemblies of all the planes were painted white. About 1,0a5 a.n. the planes marked with the white numbers 37, 38, 39 and 40 and aeIlor-brown propeller hubs took off in flight foreation. About 10:40 a.m. the four aircraft marked with the white numbers 200 21s 220 and 23 and white propeller hubs took off. At 1130 a.ae the planes with the white nembers 2 and 47 took off, In addition there was intensive local f1yin1L., All the aircraft observed had craws of two. At 5230 earn. on 13 Junes tmr transports took off together ind headed weet. Every 10 to 15 mieutes the elanes ae Toached from the east but did not land The last approach was rode at 7210 a.ma Three transports took off in fornation at 7:40 a.e. and made local fliehts. Each of the transports was towine a careo glider. The transeorts were twinaengine low-wing monoplanes fittod with radial eneinee; the leading edges of their wings were straight while the trailing edee oes tapering. The rudder was almost half the side of the tail assemblys war: painted yellow-brown and marked with a brown number ene of the transeorts had the number 23 and V33 also towing a cargo glider. It could not 'te deternined whether the craft was fitted with a nose or tail wheel since the landine gear was retracted. The cabin of the cargo glider was located rather far forward of the wings and projected high above the fnselaee. The single rudder assembly was high and angu1ar,,4Ht* 6. About 730 a.m. on 23 Jnnes 22 aircraft were observed earked in two rows facing each other, nine ground attack elanes eith whiteatipeed tail assemblies and white propeller hu 'es wore enrked in front of a hanear. The fuel container observed on 9 June was still 25X1X lyine near the feel dump at the northern edge of the installation, 7, At S:30 p.r on 20 June, Stalien airfield wae approached from the wesb by three tvrineengine planes towing cargo. Gliders at an altitude of about 300 meters. The gliders were released', when the planes were abut over the weetern boundarz of the field_ The tow line, which INT13 about 75 meters long, was not dropped even when the twin-engine planes landed.. The cargo gliders landed after flying half a circle over the field. Their landing ren was about 20 meters. The twin- engine planes were low-wing moneplanes which bad a wing span of ae leeze 35 meters, They had a straight leadirg edge and a taperieg trailing edge; the wing tips were mended off. The planes were fitted with two suspended radial engine e with radiators attached on their under sides. The rudder aseembly w.s in line with the end of the fuselage and had the shape of an isosceles triengle, the rear half of whech vas painted yellow-brown. The pit no had a tricycle landing gear with the nein gear under the lir'Jigs The craft was silver. The zezkings were not seen. The lerge cargo gliders were high-winn monoplanee with a thick fuselage which did not teper. They had relatively small tail Aseemblies and wing spans of 25 to 27 neterse Their landing gears were rubber-wheeled and the gliders were provided with a dark almost black coat of paint. By 11 p, m, neither the transports nor the, gliders had taken off again. e-er At least 26 ground attack planes were Observed parked in front of the hangars at the southern edge of the feeld. They had white-tipped tail aseeeblies and white - bordered Soviet stars on their rudder aseemblies. The Soviet star on the fuselage was not surrounded by a white stripe. :alto numbers were seen by the side of the Soviet star, As far as could be made out the aircraft had red propeller hubs 8, A radio enstallation with four mastel each, abeut 7 metces high and with a hut ir their middle, was observed in the southwestern corner of the feeld, about 50 meters from the end oi the runway. A similar 25X1C radio inetallation was located in the nertheestern corner of the field was observed passing along the southern border of the ioia un o dunes 30 parked eingleeeneine ground aLtack 25X1X planes were cbserved at the field. 9,, At 1 p.m.., on 22 June, three twin-engiee aircraft were observed over Luckenwalde. They flew over the town Ead healed east at an altitude of about 400 meters Each plane was toeing a eargo glider. The wing span of 'she cargo gliders was only 1 or 2 neeers shorter than the ming span of the towing aircraft. 25X1A Calent2. This statement confirms the occupation of the field Iv a grou5:277Itack regiment equipped with 45 50 IL40s? The white-tipped tail aseemblies are characterieeee markings of the aircraft of this regiment. An air transport regiment equipped with LI-2 planes is also stationed at the field.
