l" On 14 July, the residents of Kaeohcon (125-546 39-42) (YD 4998) stated that
approximately 39000 Soviet troops were in the mountains east Of the city; it
was rumored that 400 Soviet troops were in the Sarivwon (125-45, 38-30) YC 4064)
area,o A resident observed 200 Soviet troops billeted in the best houses in
K ams sng-ni (125-28, 39-21) (YD 1358).
Chinese Communist troops are directing the construction of now airstrips at
Songaang-ni (.125-31, 3920) (YD 1756), Yongazni (125-35, 3931) (YD 2277).
.smchlnaebol (sic) (125-41, 39-12) (YD 3242), and in the salt beds at
approximately 125-27, 39-20 (YD 1556). The work is done only at night and
the iron strips to be used for the airstrip in the salt beds are buried along
the road to the area and near the police station at Nainyang-jai (125-27, 39-21)
(YD 1158). A Chinese Communist regiment commanded by CkN Yl grain ( ,? A_ )
is billeted in Namyang-ni and is charged with the defense of the area from
guerrilla attacks from the coast, There are 40 Chinese Communist officers in
the large house next to the Taamyang-ni Theatres The regimen:h is equipped with
