This factory is manufacturing large refrigerators for the USSR. These are cylindrical in form, with a length of 10 meters, a, diameter of 6 meters, and a total volume of about 60 cubic meters. The cold char. er has a volume of 4 cubic meters. b. At one end of the cylinder is a 10 kW fan, and at the other end a door which is closed with a pressure of 40 atmospheres. The door has twelve glass observation windows 10 ems thick. Thirty-six measuring connections (iissleitungen) lead out of the interior. c. The temperature of the cold chamber can be changed from - 100? to 1200 C or vice-versa in two hours, and a vacuum of 736 ems can be produced in ten minutes. ?"Frigain" F 12 and F 22 should be used as cooling agents . Propane and acetylene are being used, because of the shortages of fFrigain".* e. Shaking test tables (Ruetteltische) are fitted into some of the refrigerators. f. A serious explosion occurred at the factory late in January 1951 when propane leaked from a refrigerator under test and was accidentally ignited. g.
