a. This factory is manufacturing large refrigerators for the USSR. These
are cylindrical in form, with a length of 10 meters, a, diameter of 6
meters, and a total volume of about 60 cubic meters. The cold char. er
has a volume of 4 cubic meters.
b. At one end of the cylinder is a 10 kW fan, and at the other end a door
which is closed with a pressure of 40 atmospheres. The door has twelve
glass observation windows 10 ems thick. Thirty-six measuring connections
(iissleitungen) lead out of the interior.
c. The temperature of the cold chamber can be changed from - 100? to 1200 C
or vice-versa in two hours, and a vacuum of 736 ems can be produced in
ten minutes.
?"Frigain" F 12 and F 22 should be used as cooling agents
. Propane and acetylene are being used,
because of the shortages of fFrigain".*
e. Shaking test tables (Ruetteltische) are fitted into some of the refrigerators.
f. A serious explosion occurred at the factory late in January 1951 when
propane leaked from a refrigerator under test and was accidentally ignited.
g. Ohlrogge and Krajewski, two officials in the East Berlin City Council,
Economy Department, have been made responsible for the factory under a
special assignment (Sonderbevollmaechtigte ). It is believed that this
may mean that the authorities intend to nationalize the firm.
2. VV'B Nagema, Kuehlautomatik, i3orlin-Johannisthal, Sage lfliegerdamm 27/28.
Until 1 January 1951, this factory was administered by the VL'B Naschinenbau
and was transferred on that date to VVVB NagemaJ.
b. It is planned to expand this factory considerably. The planned expansion
includes the increase of the capacity of the two factory transformer stations
from 3500 kVA to a total of 5,000 kVA.
