Among the divisional troops normally found in well-equipped formations are the
following units:
a. A rocket launcher regiment equipped with launchers of Soviet manufacture.
There are nine of these per battery, but the humber of batteries in a
regiment is uncertain.
b. A service battalion responsible for the communications, maintenance and
transport of the whole division. This unit has four companies, one for
each infantry regiment in the division and one for division headquarters
and divisional troops.
c. A guard battalion responsible for the protection of battalion headquarters.

1a In the Chinese Ct moist Army the basic operational i)nit is the division.
Some aspects of its composition, and organization, as seen in the 4 ',Field
Army in the Korean campaign, are described below.
2. The headquarters has four departments: Staff, Political, Supply and Medical.
3. The Staff Department has six sections : Operations, Intelligence, Deployment
( ,. 'j )1, Confidential Matters (4 --) (sic) and Administration.
4. The Political Department has five sections : Organization, Propaganda, Direct
Activities, Security and Administration.
5. The Supply Department has five sections: Finance, Pay, Rations and Fodder,
Weapons and Administration.
6. The Medical, Department is known to have two sections dealing with convalescent
homes and field hospitals respectively; and it presumably has other sections
for its other responsibilities.
