At a conference of production engineers at the Zeiss Works in Jena, it was learned
that 50 additional A-1 type air force training sets were to be delivered to the
Soviet Major (Tech Smerkalov, (fnu), who headed the commission detached from
the KTB 16 Bureau in Karlshorst to the Zeiss'Works while the A-1 training-fit
was being manufactured there, i*=-:said to be now chief engineer and designer in
a plant in'Sagorsk (56019'N/38003'E), Moscow Oblast. Many of the 200 Zeiss
technicians who were deported to the U.S.S.R. on 22 October 1946 are located
in Sagorsk." Source also stated that A-i air force training sets are being
manufactured in Sagorsk. **
Dr* jQwaft :general manager of the Feiss Works.. explained at aconferenee
on April 19 1 the manufacture of aircraft engine models (Modell-Flugmotoren-
Fertigung) in the apprentice shops of the firm. In order to be able to handle
the many orders for such aircraft engine models, it was planned to set up a
special plant for the manufacture of'auch models in Eisfeld (M 51/J 20).
Dr. Schrade! stated that production plans for 1952 had to take into considera-
tion the manufacture of A-2 air force training sets. He also said that C.
Mueller of the Designs and Testing Department would participate in the pertinent
preliminary discussions. The cooperation with other associations and plants
was to be improved with regard to the manufaotgre of the k-2 set.
