The basic Soviet highway network in the Lenkoran-Astara area, which has been in use for the past several years, consists of the main highway Baku-Lenkoran- Astara and of the spurs Astara-Shendan, Lenkoran-Kelvajski, Lenkoran- Prishibinskoye-B:elyasuvar, and Prishibinskoye-Perembol-Diman. 2. Anew network has recently been completed which links all Soviet border guard posts from Shendan to Belyasuvar. Trucks are now sighted regularly along the border in places where they had never before been seen. This new road can be seen from Iran at all points from Astara to Belyasuvar except in two areas where the road passes behind the mountains. These two areas are Mt.
