improvement of the J3-3 tank. It is the first bank with a planetary gear ohich
performs the functions of the gearshift transmission plus those of the steering
mechanism. The new heavy tank has heavier armor and more waiLht. It possesses
a more powerful Diesel motor. The tank is only an experimental model which is
being tested and further developed, It has not yet been issued to troop units,
T444 Tank. The new 3oviet T-44 tank was issued to troop units in 1944. It was
manufactured in Plant No 183. The tank weighs 30c7 tons; has a crew of 4 men;
a front armor of 75 mm; a turret armor of from 90 to 115 mm; one 85-mm gun and two
machine guns; a cruising range of 300 km; a maximum speed of 60 km per hour; a
weight of 0.7 kg per square cm; a maximum step up of 320 a maximum side incli-
