THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 50X1-H UM 1. General Statement. There were no discernible changes in the general situation of the Soviet Ground Forces in the Eastern Zone of Germany during the period of observation. 2. No preparations for large-scale manoeuvres have been observed. It is possible that some large-scale manoeuvres will be held in the Rosslau-Stendal area on both sides of the Elbe during the second half of October.' 3. Soviet Air Force in Germany. None of the airfields improved in 1051 have been occ-m:e?" by air units. A movement of the units at Finow annears to be under way. On 4 October, there were 44 MIG 15s at Finow but the sale of motorcycles and other property by personnel indicated that a movement was under way. On 6 October, 25 MiG 15s were still at Finow. Air Force personnel entrained on October 11. It is possible that one train went to Brest-Litovsk. On 13 October, 20 railroad cars with Air Force personnel and 20 with aircraft crates were observed leaving Finow. 4. On 2 October, Neururpin Airfield was still occupied. On 1:1 October,, it was not occupied. Six MW 15s were reported there on 14 October, but it was reported that the unit had been transferred. It was learned that a train with 15 box- cars fitted with benches and stoves, 22 boxcars and 24 flatcars were to be made available at Neuruppin on 12 October. This train was to be eouipned for a long trip. An empty train went from Berlin-Lichtenberg to Neuruppin on 11 October. A train from Neuruppin destined for Brest-Litovsk passed through Frankfurt on the Oder on 13 October. This train consisted of 31 boxcars and 31 flatcars. 5. Aircraftwerelast observed at Alt Loennewitz on 18 September. Aircraft were observed at Dessau on 1 October, butthe field was empty the next day. 6. None of the six fighter regiments which left Finow, Alt Loennewitz and Dessau Airfields have been identified at other Eastern Zone fields. It is possible that the fighter division with headquarters at Finow has left Germany but there are no indiCations that the fighter division with headquarters at Alt Loennewitz has crossed the Oder-neisse Line. 50X1-HUM ? Comment: Prediction of large-scale manoeuvres in this area cannot be made because of lack of information. If they are to begin 20 October, information covering the move would indicate heavy movements beginning about 16 October since it takes about four days to concentrate units.
