1. An armored tank division has been stationed at Kazanluk since 1949.
Divisional headquarters are located in recently constructed barracks two
to three kilometers northeast of Ka?anluk on the Kazanluk-Isiva (sic)
highway..
2. The division is equinped with approximately 100 tanks, mostly Soviet T-34
type, with a few German Tiger type. These tanks are kept in special
underground shelters located at divisional headquarters and at the old
Kazanluk airfield.
3. An antiaircraft reg?azsnt is currently stationed at Kazanluk. Regimental
barracks are located in the southern section of Karaniuk near the 7avod No.
10 arms and ammunition factory, Informant observed mobile 85 rnillilneter
antiaircraft runs stationed at the regimental barracks. Approximately 10
of these ,runs are located in camouflaged positions along the northern section
of Kazanluk airfield. The gun positions are under 24 hour guard.
The i'avod P'Io. Plant
4. The Zavod No. 13 plant is a government factory located at the Kazanluk
airfield. Formerly, the plant manufactured only agricultural and dentist
equipment, but sometime during early 1951 began producing aircraft fuselages.
5. The plant is composed of production, machining, and assembling departments,
employs approxir_r ely 500 laborers, and works three shifts per day. The
plant is equipped with the latest Soviet and Czechoslovak machines and
equipment, and contains aircraft, tank, and motorized vehicle repair shops.
6. The aircraft fuselages produced at this plant are singl.e..ennine, two-seater,
fighter plane prototypes, designed by a certain Utkin, an., aeronautical

Until May 1951, only one fuselage had been constructed, and two or three
more were under construction. Czechoslovak airplane engines are installed
in these fuselages.

Asen Airfield
There is a reserve airfield located approximately 15 kilometers west of
Yazanluk at Asen. This airfield is currently being enlarged and a concrete
runway is in process of construction. Sint~,,].e-en,--i.ne fighter planes are based
at this field.
