1. In 1950 all civilian building in Rumania was stoprred? All cement and iron
r
available -were used for military constructions cOnl ':. A special military
organization, the Higher Labor Council, was made responsible for rrroviding
the necessary manpower for military construction work. All soldiers
unfit for active duty were transferred to special -corking units.
24 A militar, airfield in the Baragan district with subterranean hangars
and one surfaced runway has been constructed. This runway was
completed at the end of 1950. This airfield was sp.cially constructed
for jet _ighters. The surfaced runway was built of large concrete
slabs in layers of unknown thickness. The slabs, though closely
fitted and joined with tar, are "coning loose" continually from the
pressure of plane wheels. It is planned to surface the runways with
aluminum "on the A. ericart plan."
