1.. Between 21 and 25 August no fighters or bombers were at Shanghai Air
Base.
2. On 23 and 25 August air raid alarms were sounded.
3. On 17 August two fighter groups and a bomber squadron left Shanghai
for Nanking to participate in combat maneuvers over kisuuchou (117-11,
34-.16). Although they were scheduled to be away from Shang~',t for two
months, they returned earlier because enemy planes were orasent over
Shanghai and other coastal regions. At 6 p.m. ~ 25 August these units
left Hsuchou for Nanking and arrived at Shanghai at 10 a.m. on 26 August,

4. From 27 August V', 5 Septeml?er one flight of fighters was flying constantly
over Shanghai.
5. On 29 August three reconnaissance planes from the 8 Reconnaissance Squadron
arrived at Lunghua Airfield to strengthen Shanghai air defenses.
6. On 3 September three fighter planes left, for Hanchou at 10 a.m.. and re-
turned to Shanghai at 4 p.m..
