THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The following units of First Army are located in Sofia: Headquarters I
Division; 6 Artillery Regiment, 1 Division; 1 Mechanized Regiment; and
1 Armored B~~' ~. The es of 1 Armored Brigade are located in
Lozenets o there are about 300 T-34 tanks with 1 50X1-HUM
Armored Brigade, There is another armored unit located in Sofia near
the Sofia-Samakov road.
2. The 2 Armored Brigade is located at Plovdiv. An anti-tank unit with 18
76 mm anti-tank artillery pieces is located in the western end of Plovdiv
near the Pazardzhik road.
3. The following units of Fourth Army are located in Pleven: 4 Heavy
Artillery 'iagi.r nt; 4 ~fechanized Regiment; and 4 Quartermaster Regiment.
The headquarters of 9 Division and 4 Infantry Regiment,, 9 Division, are
also in Pleven,
4. The 4 riountain Artillery Regiment and 18 Infantry Regiment, 5 Division
are in Turnovo. The 33 Infantry Regiment, 5 Division is in Svishtov.
The classes of 1929, 1930, and part of the class of 1931 are serving in
the security army (sic).
6. Infantry reserve officers and soldiers of the classes of 1910 through
1918 are being called individually for 32 days training in new weapons.
Artillery reservists are being called for 45 days training, and armored
and cortninications reservists are being called for 65 days training.
There is a training center for 2,000 recruits of the class of 1931 at
R'onastoriee WI -5573).
8. A new type of armored vehicle has been seen in Sofia recently. The
vehicle has a 76 mm artillery piece

9, There are large hangars hidden in the wooded area near the Graf
Ignatiev airfield. About 60 paratroopers are being trained at the
Graf Ignatiev airfield; they were dropped into the surrounding area
from a two-engine plane. There are 18 antiaircraft pieces, 37 mm
(L 1938) and 76 mm (tg1.938), placed around the Graf Ignatiev airfield.
10. Throughout Bulgaria., males between the ages of 16 and 25, and females
between the ages of 20 and 32 take air defense training.
