1. From October to December 1951, large shipments of cloth, bicycles,
radios, and condensed and powdered milk were arriving in Shanghai from
the USSR and Eastern European countries. In late December Shanghai
prices for some of this cloth were as follows: Soviet-made print
dress material, JMP 9,500 per yard; Soviet-made rayon, JMP 12,500 per
yard; Polish -made overcoat material, JMP 280,000 per yard; Czech-made
overcoat material, JMP 260,000 per yard.
2. On 29 December r 1#500 tons of rice were shipped from Chichiaxag (316-03,
29-43) to Shanghai on the tug boats CNIEN CR'IEN ( ,r) and 00 LU
()Q I ) for transshipment to Dairen.
3. In late December the Chinese Communist authorities at Peiping ordered
the Yangtze Nttvigation Administration to ship all the 3,500 tons of
steel stored at Ich'ang (111-17, 30-42) to Shanghai in January 1952.
