;. The village of Carcaliu has a population of approximately 1,500 families of
Russian origin and 75 Rumanian families. Fishing is the main occupation of
the village's inhabitants.
2a The Rumanian Government has given special attention to this village. Vil-
lagers are given good posts in the Army and in the Security forces o The
Russi ,n.4amities are regarded as highly trustworthy and their children are
often sent to Bucharest for special care, tLl,proximately 800 families have
requested l4epatriation to the Soviet Union; 200 of these have already left.:
3. In mid-June 1951, Soviet troops pass through the village of
4a Macin, which is a very small locality, has been growing in importance since
May 1951 when approximately 300 Rumanian Government.officials, including a
number of Arriq officers, came to the village on "administrative missions."
