Various large units of the Yugoslav Armed Forces have reportedly undergone reorganization recently) The reorganization has reportedly manifested itself in the following ways: a. Existing Military Districts have been disbanded and been replaced by four Military Districts2 with headquarters in: (1) Belgrade; (2) Skoplje; (3) Sarajevo; and (4) Zagreb. 25X1X b. Some armies have been reportedly divided into rifle corps which corn prise two or three infantry divisions; c. The Air Force has been reorganized into Air Corps; d. Artillery divisions have been formed; e. Large military units have been equipped with modern arms and munitions; f. Special groups trained for guerrilla warfare have allegedly been formed. These units will purportedly be attached to large functional units; and g. The technical and professional knowledge of commanding officers and specialists in the Yugoslav Armed Forces has improved. 2. As a result of the stated reorganization of the Yugoslav Army, the following military units have been affected: a. The t Arm with headquarters in LjutFljana has been renamed the 23 Corps;- and b. Other unidentified air divisions are reported to be stationed in Serbia and Macedonian Class of 1531 drafted !t. The class of 1931,6 will allegedly be called up in October and November. Conscripts were reportedly called up uninterruptedly during the spring and summer months,' The older classes were given military training for a period of three months. Paramilitary activities All paramilitary members,,, both male and female in the Split area have reportedly been divided into six guerrilla divisions, a naval brigade and a merchant marine brigade.7 Membership in the Split area comprises some 20,.000 individuals. These new divisions are reported to be under the command of the Split Military Command, which is prepared to defend Split and the military installations in the Split area in the event of war. 25X1 25X1A 25X1 6. The Kragujevac Military Technical Institute is reportedly producing a new hand-held anti-tank rocket,launeher8 and other unspecified weapons.9 2. Cozrmrent= there are now three Military Di-efr`l-ers headquarters in Belgrade, Zagreb and Nis. However, on 27 August 1951.9 another government agency reported the existence of 5 Military Districts, namely., 1 District at Belgrade, 2 District at Novi Sad,, 3 District at Skoplje, 5 District at Zagreb, and the 7 District at Sarajevo. 25X1A 3.
