SUPPLEMENT TO
REPORT NO.
2S.C1 X
four or five planes resembling the four-engine TU-b
were seen at the Ivanka airfield (P49/Yo9) near Bratislava. The crews were
supposedly Russian. The planes were described as having a wing span of
45-50 in. with the wrings situated midway on the fuselage. The shape of the
wings is similar to that of the B-29. The fuselage is "more round than oval".
There are no windows in the fuselage. The cockpit is in the nose of the
fuselage and is made of a transparent material. In the rear of the fuselage
there is a machine gun turret which is made of the same transparent material.
The plane has a tricycle landing gear with dual wheels. Two radial air-
cooled engines are mounted on each wing.*
2. The headquarters of the Fourth Air Force Region, formerly located in Bratislava
in a municipal building on Marianske Street, are now situated at Ivanka air-
field. A new building was constructed to accommodate the headquarters.;cI*
3. Piestany airfield (P1.9/T1 ) is occupied by the 2nd Fighter Regiment. Barracks
are located on the western side of a railroad station near the airfield.
Siebels which were formerly based at Piestany are now based at Ivanka.***
The Elementary Pilot School, School of Aviation Mechanics, and a Paratroop
Training Center are located at the Vajnory Airfield, near Bratislava.
I omment: Ivanka airfield is frequently used as a stopover point for
Soviet planes travelling between Czechoslovakia and the USSR. These planes
reportedly carry important military persons and vital military material. The
planes described in the above paragraph have never before been seen at the
Ivanka field nor in the air above Bratislava, and it is assumed that they
fly mostly at night.
Cmment: This move indicates that the Ivanka field, formerly a civilian
L as i ld,, is now under military administration.
Comment: The transfer of Siebel planes from Piestany airfield to Ivanka
seems to point to the establishment of the military passenger unit at Ivanka.
