1. Loo2tion
The Oka chemical plant in Dzerzhinsk-Igumnovo (44?38'E/
56ol41N), Gorki Oblast', is south of the Gorki railroad
line between the power plant and the Stroy chemical plant.
The original installations,which existed during the war,
did not suffer any damage. A new foundry was completed in
August 1948. The excavation work for two new concrete buil-
dings was started in November 1943 and the bare brickwork
completed by April 1949. The old foundry the machinery of
which had been removed in 1948, was raze. in 1949. A rail-
road spur track is available. Electricity is supplied from
the neighboring power plant.

Each shift consisted of about 500 Soviets, about 50 percent
women. Three hundred and fifty PWs and some Russian super-
visors did construction work.

_ e oca ion of this plant as indicated in this'report is
in accordance with the sketch of a previous source, who nave
information on the power plant east of this factory. That
sketch gave a probably true picture of the relative locations
of the different Dzerzhinsk-Ioumnovo chemical plants. For
comparison it is. attached as Annex 2.
The Stroy chemical plant, west of the Oka plant and men-
tioned by the previous source, is Chemical Plant T? o. 96.
The plant layout as given in Annex 1 cannot be judged.
More details and confirmation are required.

1 Administration brick building, 25 x 12 x 14 meters, four
stories
2 Concrete acid warehouse, 30 x 15 x 6 meters, connected
with items 3 and 4 by noninsulated overhead pipe lines
resting on steel girders 5 meters high. The workers wore
rubber clothing and protective glasses,
3 Irrigation works, concrete structure, 15 x 10 x 6 meters,
with a pipe coil system of 3-cm pipes on the roof. This
system is the same height as the building and is presum-
ably sprayed with water. There is the smell of ammonia.
4. Unidentified concrete building, 20 x 15 x 6 meters, through
the windows of which measuring instrumants were seen and
noise of machines was heard.
Concrete building, A penetrative ammonia smell surrounded
this building; the :;porkers wore rubber protective clothing.
The building was connected by pipe lines with the irriga-
tion works and the spirits plant.
6 Spirits plant, concrete building, 15 x 10-x 6 meters; tank
cars,were frequently observed on the neighboring track.
Ninety-eight percent spirits was distributed to the PW~'s
several times. They suffered no ill effects from drinking
it.
7 and 3 Four-story concrete buildings, 30 x 10 x 14 meters,
all rooms are flagged, doors and windows are of metal.
9 Laboratory, four-story concrete building, 60 x 20 x 12
meters
10 warehouse, four-story concrete building, 30 x .15 1 12 me-
ters, for.the storage of glass balloons and metal contai-
ners, oxygen flasks, etc.
11 and 12 Concrete buildings, 50 x 28 x 14 and 15 x 3 x 6
meters. Purpose unknown
13 Old foundry, being razed
14 Concrete warehouse, 40 x 20 x 12 meters, where metal con-
tainers and paper sacks are stored,
15 'Iorkshops
16 kew foundry, concrete building, 35 x 12 x 3 meters
