1a The Slaveevo (RG-6328 ) Goopl rwtivo was formed in 1949; it extended over
approximately 10,E decares and had two tractor's, a combine harvester,
and an unknor:an number of draft animals.
The formation of the Cooperative preceded by an intensive propaganda
campaign and force, including beatings and imprisonmertso was erzployed
to persuade villagers to loin.: The Cooperative was still in existence
in October 19.51,, but mini of the peasants had left to seek employment in
the towns.
3,, in 1949, shortly after the format ion of the Slaveevo Cooperative a
propaganda campaign as Initiated in the neighboring village of Ledzha.
(RO. 926) for the foc tion of a similar cooperative. This campaign
was vigorously opposed by the villagers 8 including local comrszuri t party
members who argued that the cooperative system was not suited to Bulgaria
and that the Slaveevo ex *r:1ment had been a failure.
1 . In October 1951,, as a result of this opposition,, only 27 Coramui.sts
remained of a party ernbershkp which numbered 120 in 1949. The rem inder,
including Di tur Slavov Vanes Ccmunis o Party Secretary, and Yordan
Petrov, Communist Party Official,, had been expelled,,, The cooperative
