As of 23 October 1951, there were over 3,000 underground reinforced concrete
forts between Antung and Mukden. The forts were camouflaged and showed only
slightly above the ground. There were 1,200 forts on the first line of de-
fense, which was the north side of the Yalu River between Linchiang and
Antung; and 2,000 forts on the second line, which ran along both sides of the
Mukden-Antung railway. The area along the railway was designated a military
restricted region and troops were stationed at every stop.
