THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1. Access b,r civilians to the beaches and shore line was limited to an area of between 200 and 300 meters wide. There were Rumanian guards patrol- ling the area day and night. Lining the coastline from Sulina to Sfantu Gheorghe were wooden observation towers. The distance between the towers was 1,000 meters; telephone lines connected them.. There were coastal guns mounted on concrete casemates facing toward the sea, on both sides of the Danube River near Sulina. 2. Most of the shipping activity on the Danube was confined to Soviet, Rumanian and Hungarian river craft, barges and tugs. These were empty when going upstream, but loaded with ore and lumber on the down river trip. It was reported that some were loaded with ammunition and guns. 3. Three Soviet torpedo boats harbor regularly. destroyers in the harbor. visited Sulina 50X1-HUM there were ten Soviet 4. There were no Soviet troops in Sulina. 5. Opposite the cemetery in Sulina, there were constructed ten new barracks and administrative buildings for the Rumanian Navy.
