In the course of the last winter 1951, anti-Communist pamphlets were circulated in great numbers in and around Braila. These multigraphed manifestos were signed Vulturul (The eagle), and urged the people to prepare to play their part in the forthcoming struggle for liberations 2. The activities of another group, called Gupul Meridional de Resistenca (The Southern Resistance Group), were also noted toward the and of 1951. This group is reported to be working in cooperation with another organization called Carpatina, which is stated to have a widespread network reaching into Bessarabia and Bucovina. Reportedly, there are about 4,000 members of the Carpatina resistance group in the Cernauti area. 3. Another resistance group which is called LNR (Liga Navala Romana - The Rumanian Naval League) is reported to be expanding and absorbing other groups. One of the smaller groups thus merged was known as Valurile Dunarii (The Waves of the Danube). 4.
