Only some flooring and some small water canals will remain to be finished in January 1952. 25X1 2. Shipbuilding shed 25X1 on 29 November 1951, it was expected that the shipbuilding shed would be sufficiently constructed on 31 December 1951 to make it possible to start building the foundations for the machinery and equipment which the shed is to house. The flooring, however, can only be finished after all machines have been installed.. Work on the steel construction was being carried on in three shifts. The arrival of four internal. cranes (10 metric tons) was expected by approximately 5 December 1951 from:,Abus Koethen-Dessau.* The arrival of shipbuilding presses, ordered some time ago from.VVB Abus, has been delayed. HV Schiffbau has been informed that if the presses fail'to arrive by.2 January 1952 as presently scheduled, the shipbuilding program which is scheduled to start on 1 January 1952 will be delayed by three months. The delivery of the straightening rollers (one large and one small) due to arrive in December 1951 and mid-January 1952 from Gotha** has now been delayed until 15 February 1952. HV Schffbau has been informed of this as well as of the resulting delays in the shipbuilding program. Cableway crane Work on the erection of the one cableway crane at this shipyard has now almost caught up with the planned schedule. It is still hoped that the crane will be finished by 28 February 1952 so that the work In the slips can begin on 1 March 1952. Therefore arrangements are under way to connect the shipyard with the nearest point of the net by two HT links. The total output Energiebezirk Nord will be able to supply amounts to about 1+5,,000 kw. New aheds' The three new sheds under construction. were completed by 29 November 1951. Other work It was anticipated that most of the other minor tasks under way at the yard would be finished by 31 December 1951. The water supply, however, is so poor that axi additional pipeline-= is now being laid. The existing supply would not have sufficed in case of fire. EM, 25X1 public-services like electricity, water and gas supplies, sewage nets, schoolsy hospitals etc. would-have to be expanded in order to handle the infh= of labor expected in the early spring of 1952, at which time the shipyard hopes to start building ships Although only 234+ new apartments were planned for 1952, a total of at least 2,000 will be needed. New buses will also be required; if possible, trolley buses are to be operated. Four new roads leading to the yard will have to be built in 1952. More shops and a new hotel for transient visitors also have to be considered in the expansion plans, A new railroad station in the vicinity of the shipyard. will be necessary and the dredgers which keep the waterways open will have to be exchanged and supplemented to insure the required depth of 15 meters.
