Trudovaks
During November 1.950, the entire trudovak service was reorganized on a
military structural basis., and the existing eight trudovak districts
were reformed into four trudovak divisions. The divisions are composed
of from two t,o three brigades; the brigades are composed of from two to
three battalions; the battalions are composed of from three to four com-
panies of three platoons each.- Officer and enlisted ranks were altered
to conform to the Soviet system.
Under the new system., 1 Trudovak Division is l.o cated in-Sofia,' 2 Trudovak
Division in Stara Zagora, 3 Trudovak Division in Pleven,, and 4 Trudovak
Division in. Showmen.
Trudovak personnel are given. only 1520 days of close-order drill before
being assigned to various unite.
Young Communists of military age, who are considered politically reliable,
are sent to Trudovak Officer Training School in Sofia. After completing
a nine months' training course, they are given. the rank of lieutenant and
are assigned to units. Some of the officers receive additional post-
graduate training before being assigned to units. Non.-commissioned
officers are also chosen from Communist personnel, but are forced to en-
list in the army for a five year term.. Non commissioned officers are
given six month-31 training at the Trudovak Divisional Headquarters
nearest their home.

. The 192P~, 1929, 1930, and 1.931 classes are currently serving in the
trudovaks. The normal period of service is 30 months; however, in
individual cases, this may be decreased to 12 months if the trudovak in
question is the sole support of a family which has no sons over 15 years
old and whose yearly income does not exceed 30,000 leva.
6. Only politically reliable trudovaks are furnished and trained with arms.
Usually 15 to 20 of these reliable personnel are found in each company,
and are assign-,:ed to administrative, messenger, and guard duty.
7. Trudovak. are promoted according to their efforts, morale, and degree of
political reliability. Length of service is not considered important as
a basis for promotion.
Q. Regulations are enforced, and offenders may have their length of service
rrolon`fed or may be imprisoned. Trudovaks who damage or destroy equip-
ment must reimburse the government for the full value of such articles.
