Both 600-and 800-watt radio sets have been successfully installed as all-wave radio sets. At the moment, about 250 workers are occupied. on this vessel. 2 S0 7 ;I, SOYUZ. Salvage airplane metal is being :melted down and used to build partitions for the cabins in this ships The engines (type unknown) have not yet been installed. The original turbines were taken out of the ship and sent to Berlin-Heringsdorf* for overhauling, but according to an announcement from the Konstruktion Buero, the Russians later decided to change the power unit to the pure diesel type. 3. S.S. YAKUTIA The upper deck has been modified to form a second promenade deck with the intention of making a mixed cargo/passenger ship. About 300 men are working on this vessel, 4. p , ss? Scaffolding has been put up all over the ship and some parts of her super- structure, a well as the searchlight, have been removed. The electric light system was in such bad condition that, according to the crew, short cir6u.its and small outbreaks of fire ware frequent. The degaussing girdle has been stripped down but it is not yet clear whether this system was a German one or of later Russian construction. OveAauling of the boilers and engines has, to some extent. started. Almost all the valves have been found to leak and all electric cables will have to be stripped and reinsu.la.ted. Instructions regarding the mounting of guns are not yet on hand. b. The crew is now on board and consists of 54 men including officers. Part of the crew is assisting in the repairs to the engines and to the boiler room.. Of the electrical generators, only one is, at the moment, functioning. This generator supplies light to the men's quarters and the officers' cabins, 25X1 25X1 25X1 ca The scheduled date of completion for this vessel is not yet known since the damage to the equipment is much greater than was originally supposed. 5. Minesweepers ?. ':e minesweepers charged their mooring place from that on the East Mole and now e in the inner harbor. On 31 October 1951, the boats I went to sea so that only were in the harbor on 2 November. 60 Naval motor vessels Six of the KT boats have now been hauled up on to land and are covered with tarpaulins. The other five are still in the water but are no longer making any voyages.
