THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. The present chief of the Hupeh Department of Public Security is LI.Chieh-sheng
( IT, ) , a nominee of the Chairman of the Hupeh Government, LI
Hsien-Wien ( = ' - ). Through his: Public Security Department, LI Chieh-
sheng controls 70 hsien bureaus and 14 municipality bureaus. All of the
bureaus appear to be similar in organization to the Provincial Public
Security Department.
2. As an example, the director of the Hsiaokan Hsien (113-55, 30-56)
Public Security Bureau has three sections under him: Administration,
General Affairs, and Judicial. The bureau. has 26 clerks and 105
policemen, including traffic police, residence police, and. criminal
police. There is also a Public Security Battalion consisting of three
companies of 110 men each. Including the Public Security Battalion,
the Hsien Public Security Bureau musters about 680 people of all ranks.
3. This.Public Security Bureau has five branch bureaus: Hsiaokan, Hsiaokan
Port, Hsiaochiahang, Luchiashan (113-58, 31-10), and the Yangtse Branch.
There are about 120 men at each of these sub-stations.
The men of the Public Security Battalion are given free food, lodging,
uniform, and monthly pocket money mounting to about JMP 35,000,.
Theoretically the term of service is one year, but in practice there
is no change of retiring after one is drafted into this force,
