THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. Aytos is an old trowna and now has a population of approximately 1.61, 000. Most
of the buildings are 2-storied, with some 3-story buildings located in the
center of the town,' 11':".e main street, running east and west through the city,
is the only street whic:'i is wide and paved. Only the main street and the
streets near it are ill7umtnated by electricity. Savis Levski street branches
from the main street a d. Joins the Burgas highway; (general Gurko street starts
at the main street and leads to Meglen village.
2. On the west side of A.ytos is a small park with a monument of Khristo Botev
and the partisans Who were killed during World War II.
3. The city council building is located on the main street. Militia head-
quarters and government security personnel are located in the same building
in the center of Aytos. There are no jails or concentration camps in the
city. The Black. Slope ramp in. Bulgarovo village interns criminals from the
Burgas jail; prisoners crush. rock. There are no political prisoners at the
camp.
There are from. six. to twenty militia patrols in the city. A patrol. consists There of a militia ran armed with a sub-machine gun and a Party member armed with
a carbine. The rn,1_l i t ,a man is on duty for one hour, the other man serves for
two hours. The patrols co icentrate their activities in the vicinity of the
station and the center of the city.
59 The railroad station is located on the southern side of Aytos. There are
four tracks at the sl',ati.or,t' the lines are regular sina Trains
p.m.; for
leave for Burgas at 6no0 a.m., 130 p.m., 7:0p.m and 11:00
Karnobat at 5:20 a,ra.; and for Sofia via Karnobat at 8.20 a.m., 3.40 psm..,
and 9:00 p.m.

7. There are three hotels in Atyos, all located in the center of the city on the
main street The hotels are administered by the > un.icipality and have a daily
roan rent; of 160-200 lei a~ they are named the Londgn, Sulgariyal and Parish
3 0 `.here is a second class government hospital in the eastern part of the city.
Other main buildings cl.de a coeducational high school and a Z'irl's high
school.. The cinema, located near the post office, shows Soviet moving pictures
daily at BOO pe.mo, the price of a ticket is 20 l.evaa
Laborers are required to sign a contract when they begin work; it they leave
their job before the co;stract is fulfilled, they are liable to court punish-
ment. Daily Dimazri wages are 250 leva, maximum wages are 400 leva. this is
enough for a single person, but not enough to .support a family..
10. There is no black marketing in Aytos except by the gover':ment which sells in
goyernme :t shops; at very high prices Friday is r .rket day in Autos; villagers
from nearby comma +ities 1 ring onions and eggs to sell, -the only iroduce they
have left to therm?
114 Ration cards are not issued in the villages. A coMmittee of the v .llage
council issues allowances to the people, using a list. :In cities,. allowances
are against ration cards iss.ed as follows :

are issued. against ration cards.. Bread, white cheese, rice, meat, agar, flour,
milk, and soap are among the items. ratio-ned.. (lards are issued once every three
months.
