The coke product of the plant is of poor quality; it yields only
about 50 percent blast furnace coke,
following coal mixture is used:
Gliwice Coke r1ant: A new battery was put in operation in January
1951 A second battery, under construction in May 1951, had not
been completed by February 1952, The now battery is of the Otto
t--'pc with 35 furnaces and two receivers,* Furnace dimensions
are: length, 131 meters; (lei?ht,,4 meters; width,0,46 meters, One
furnace chamber can hold 20 tons of wet coal, Refining time
(Gaerungszeit, is 21 hovtre, The production of coke from one kilo-
gram c f coal requires 560 (sic) kcal, (thousands of calories). The

This mixture contains the followings 8 to 10 percent water, 6.5
percent ashes, 28 to 29 percent volatile constituents, and 1.0 to
105 percent sulphur. The mixture produces 80 percent of wet coke
from dry coal, as well as the following:
Gast 320 cubic meters per ton of coal; heating power of
48500 kcal@ per normal cubic meter (760 mm. and 0 degrees)
Tar: 3.4 percent
Benzole: 103 per cent
The product is 80 percent blast furnace colaeo The solidity of
the blast furnace coke is 70 percent larger than 40 millimeters,
upon application of the drum testo
Comment: Confirms previous information. It has also
been report that the one battery produces 800 to 1,000
tons of coal daily*
