THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. A coordinated express commtud cations system is to be built up this year in
the Danube valley, between Budapest and the Yugoslav frontier.
2. This was decided at a recent conference held between MESZHART (Hungarian-
Soviet Navigation, Inc.) communications experts, Soviet military communications
specialists, and representatives of the Hungarian State Railways and of the
Hungarian Ministry of Public Transport ("P6sta-es KSzlekedes-dgyi")?
The scheduled project consists of integrating closely the roads, railways,
and waterways in such a manner that transshipment from one channel of communi-
cation to another can be effected rapidly. To this end, new harbors of :t
large transloading capacity and new transloaders are to be constructed, in
addition to the improvements and. new sections for the actual communications
lines.
4. The backbone of the planned. traffic system is the Danube valley express-tratfiC
rail . line. which is already under construction.
5. Harbors; At points where this railway line lies close to the Danube, new
harbors will be built, or existing ones extended. These harbors are:
a: Sztalinv ros (Dunapenteie). This is to be one of the largest Danube
harbors in Hungary. New constructions are already in progress.
b. Dunaf8ldvar - the existing harbor will be extended.
c. Paks - the existing harbor will be extended.
d. RE La the existing harbor will be extended.

The former secondary line branching off the main Budapest - Dombov&.r
line at Pusztaszabolocs and leading to SztalinvAros and Paks has already
been rebuilt to a double-track primary line nearly to Paks.

The BAtaszek SzekszArd line is to be converted to double-track

A new line is to be u2t,connecting Paks with SzekszArd. The sur
of the bed of this proposed line is already in progress.

Roads, A new concrete primary road linking DunafSldvdr - Paks - Szeksz ;rd
is approaching completion; it is built next to the old second-class road
(on the west side of it). The new road is 8 meters wide and has a 1-meter
pavement on each side of it.* At its northern end, the road by-passes Dunaf8ldvAr
and joins the primary concrete.road from SztalinvAros (Dunapentele); at its
southern end, it links up with the SzekszArd - BAtaszek primary road.
Comment: The one-meter pavement refers
