1. Principal exports to the Soviet Union through the harbor of Consta a
include such items as sugar, cement, glass, pipe, cereals, timber,
petroleum products and fruit pulp. Reportedly, the entire output of
the Phoenix seed oil refinery is also being exported to the Soviet
Union.
2. The use of merchandise purchased in State-operated shops for making
other products which are intended for sale on the open market is
prohibited. Two pastry confectioners were tried in a public square
in Bucharest and sentenced to six years imprisonment for having
used sugar, which they had bought in State shops to make past
which was later sold on the market. the 50X1-HUM
trial of these two men was the first trial which has ever been held
in an open square in Rumania.
3.- Farmers are required by law to turn over 35 per cent of all pork
they obtain from their slaughtered pigs to an organization called
Comcar. Those who operate poultry farms are also required to turn
over to Comicar an unspecified quantity of eggs during each year.
4. The Rumanian Government plans to establish a new agency, to be
named Torburi, which will control all private businesses still
functioning in the country. This agency will also supervise all
professionals such as doctors and lawyers.

1. In September and November 1951 all the employees of government-operated
enterprises were compelled to participate in air defense exercises. In
Bucharest the street "responsibles" inspected all attics to make certain
that no inflammable materials were stored there.
2. Meetings were held in various factories and enterprises to urge the
employees and workers to'donate blood for hospital blood banks. Each
person was requested to donate between 300 and 400 grams of blood.
Among the first to volunteer were the chiefs of personnel and the
political "guides". Their example was later followed by the workers.
A new government project calls for the evacuation from Constanta of
16,000 "politically unreliable" persons.
