Approved For Releas0Z 8jttIJ 7R012200270010-0 CLASSIFICATION s c r INFORMATION REPORT REPORT NO. COUNTRY Czechosloirakia SUBJECT Conservation o? Gasoline, Oil, and Lubricants DATE OF INFO. PLACE ACQUIRED AIR 1. The Czechoslovak Army has issued instructions concerning POL (petroleum, oil, lubricants.) conservation. Every type of motor vehicle has been assigned a maximum consumption of POL products. Transport officers are held responsible for conformance with the assigned consumption allowance. If actual consumption is higher than prescribed, the officer is required to reimburse the Army for the difference. On the other haud, a driver who uses less fuel than the prescribed maximum is rewarded with a money bonus. POI: control stations have been established which check vehicles periodically and keep carburetor jet openings set for minimum fuel consumption. 2. The price of gasoline for civilians is instrumental in restricting its use. A liter of gasoline for private cars costs 40 Kcs. For trucks and farm. tractors the price is 12 Kes, but the gasoline is of a different color than the more expensive fuel. Civilian cars are often checked and, if found using the cheaper gasoline, the car is either confiscated or the owner is required to pay a very heavy fine. 3. The trend in the production of heavy vehicles is toward diesel engines. Production of buses is rising, and all new buses are equipped with diesel engines.
