The Magyar Soviet Bauxite Aluminum Company (MASZOBAL) is responsible for the administration of the Hungarian bauxite and aluminum industries. In theory it forms part of the Ministry of Heavy Industry, but in practice it is run by a Soviet General Manager. The company is located in Budapest, Kossuth Lajos ter 13-15. It employs about 260 officials, of whom 35 are engineers. Altogether 7,000 to 9,000 workers are employed In these industries. 2. The most important mines are located in the vicinity of Aika (D 4+8), at Nyir&d (1l 37). and at Epleny (D 69). At Nyi.rAd about 800 workers are 4. employed and at Epleny, about 400. Of less significance are the mines at Iskeezeut 8r (" 90), which employ about 600 workers, and the mines around (ant (Z 02), where about 150 workers are employed. All mines are open-cast, with the excavation being done in terrace-like fashion. The ore occurs in a vertical strata, in thicknesses of 10 to 20 m. After processing it yields about 25 percent aluminum. The 'bauxite ore has a reddish color as a result of the presence of iron. The plant at Atka produces 10,000 tons of aluminum annually. Of this, of ;kitchenware and aircraft parts. very small quantities going to local factories to be used in the production about 5,000 tons are sent to the USSR in the form of ingots, weighing 11 kg. each. The rest is sent to the Sz+kesfeheririr plant (see below), Ajka employs about 2,200 workers. The 80kesfeherv,r (Z 00) Aluminum Rolling Mills produce aluminum sheets in thicknesses of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.S and 3 mm. In addition,. t}iey produce various aluminum alloys. Various metals for the production of alloys are received from the "USSR. Most of the finished products are sent to the USSR, with only Document No. ---------------- Cr a ..e IR Clays. This plant employs about 400 workers. About 2,500 tons of alumina are sent to the Rdkosi MatyAs Works at Crepel, (H 51), 6,000 tons to the Fels8galla plant (z o1.), and the remainder to the USSR. The RAkoei M;tyas Works turn out about 1,200 tons of aluminum per year. The major part of the production of this plant is sent to the USSR; the rest is used in the production of military equipment at the plant. The total yearly production of aluminum In Rungary is between 14,000 and 15,000 tons. This cannot be increased, at the present time, because of the lack of electric power. Between 19 and. 20 kw. of power are needed to produce one kg. of aluminum.. 8. The following are some of the personalities of the Hungarian-Soviet Bauxite Aluminum Company (MASZOBAL)4 a.
