Directorate of the Gorubso Mining Eriteeirlse.vere located in Madan village, Smolyan district. The directorate manager was a certain Mikhailovits, a 38-year-old Soviet engineer who was tell, blond, and blues-eyed; he was married and lived with his wife and child in Madan. A certain Gramadnikov, a Bulgarian engineer, was the assistant manager of the directorat4e, 2. There were about 10 Soviet technicians employed at Madan in addition to the Bulgarian employees. 3. The following mines were under the supervision of the Third Directorate: a,, Sharenka, about three kilometers west of Madan; b. Vurba,, about five kilometers west of Madan; c. Spolnika; and d. At an unidentified location. 4. In August 1951, the Sharenka mine had only one lateral tum 1, about 30 meters long; the tunnel was. later abandoned. The main tunnel was worked by three shifts of 40 men each, Ore was being excavated from four points along the main, tunnel.. ore at the Sharenka n3.n was loosened with four drills, then loaded on mine cars and transported by the mineas Soviet-made OHP 30-horsepower tracctor. The tractor pulled three cars each trip; each car held about 1,000 kilograms of ore. The output of the mine was about 25 tons of ore every eight hours. The transported to Madan by truck. 7. The Georgi Dimitrov Foundry in Kurdzhal,i employed about 500 workers. An un- identified Soviet engineer was the foundry mamager; there were also various Soviet technicians. employed by the foundry, among whom was a certain Zelezbarov, an electrical engineer. 86, Road.maintatnence in the mine area is under the supervision of the Government Construction Enterprise of Sofia.
