A siding is being built along the four-kilometer stretch of track between Rostock and Bramow. The siding is to serve as a transfer point for cargoes which have arrived via ship a..d are to be for- warded by rail or which have arrived by train are to be sent on by sea, 2. Surveying work for the large new marshalling yards at Berlin- iwuhlheide is under way. It is expected that major construction work will soon start. ,3. Uranium ore, called "Masse", which crosses the border at Frjnkfurt/ Oder, is in concentrated form and is packed in containers which are loaded in boxcars, This "Masse" is not shipped in bulk nor in open coal or dump cars, During the year 1952, planned improvements and expansion within the territory of RBD Berlin will amount to llt0,0000000 DM Last. Between 11 January and 26 April 1952, 13,300 carloads of grain entered the DDR at the border point of krankfurt/Oder. 6. The removal of brass hardware and fittings from the cars of Berlin S-Kahn is being carried out at rt=w Sch8neweide. About 680 cars are still to be processed; i=; is expected that from these 117 tons of non-ferrous metals will be removed. The DDR Reichsbahn plans to spend 700%000 DM Last on the project, including the costs of labor and replacement materials. 7. Conversations 'between officials of the UDR i-:inistry of Transport and representatives of the Soviet Control Commission on the question of running a Russian-gauge rail line from Brest Litovsk to Berlin, using one of the present routes, are proceeding. The Soviet officials show strong interest in keeping the discussions alive. The Reichebahn main office and the Soviet Control Cotimission have agreed on this classification; the projects are to be completed regardless of material shortages.
