The airfield west of Sibiu .35/ 20) is located south of the : ighway
to ;;hristian ( R 35/x. 10)., Con.^truction of this new airfield st, rted
about 1948. ;ork had not been completed in November 1951.. The landing
field was level and dry and had a good frass cover. Lora wooden ',_uildin;s
for the labor brigades were erected along the southern side of t'hh.e high
ra;~ The airfield was used for both r ilita,ry and civilian purposes. Five
to, sit( biplanes and a multi-engine plane for civil aviation w'.re stationed
at the field The biplanes were used for individual fl..ying prac-~ice during
the day. No parachute jumps w,,ere observed. Flying personnel, a;u well as
labor brigades, mere stationed at the field.
.The former Honved Barracks in ":,ibiu, east of the C1b laver, L.:.s a.1so
o:ea;upied by air force troops. The barracks inst.&.1itation, r;hich as old
but in good condition, consisted of three four-story brick buildings which
we;"e all about the same size. No new buildings were erected afteir the
