1. Since 11 June 1952 there have been increased rumors concerning the
"arrest"or removal of Stalin.
2. The rumor concerning the Stalin arrest mentions Molotov or Vishinsky
as the replacement but the rumor picked up 25X1X
that Vishinsky is possibly on the way out because tia is a mere
foreign office official" implying that he is a civil servant with low
Party ranking. Western diplomatic circles agree that many Stalin
pictures have been removed from prominent positions and give as the reason
the possible play-down of Soviet adulation. Nevertheless, pictures and
".busts are still prominent in the following places:
a. UTM (Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor-Youth Labor Union) Lakeside Club
b. UFD (Uniunea Femeilor Democrate Womans Democratic Union) Club
c. Ministry of Justice
d. Ministry of Commerce
e. Bucharest Sfatul Popular Headquarters
f. A factory along Stefan Cel Mare Street. This appears to refute re-
ports that Party organizations have received instructions to remove
pictures.
