the Chinese Communist Peoples' Volunteer Army in North Korea
has shown the following signs of planning to remain there OA .A long-term baste,
irrespective of the outcome of the truce talks
a: All Chinese Communist forces in Korea, except those directly engaged in
conbat? must engage In production. This implies that they will gradually
change from combat units to reclamation army forces. The. Majority of
these now engaged in land reclamation must pay 300 catties of vegetables
per year to the military authorities.
b. All Chinese Communist forces in Korea, except those directly-engaged in?
combat, must participate methodically in army training programs at places
where they are now stationed. The training now includes the use of new
weapons, culture and education (sic). Only army units in front areas may
_hold marksmanship practices with live ammunition.
c. Chinese Communist army supply and service organizations in. Korea have engaged
in numerous construction projects in North Korean tear areas, including
warehouses, troop depots, etc.

Chinese Communist Volunteer Army Headquarters have organized Korean language
training classes and have drawn political workers of all grades into
intensive training courses so they can smooth relations betWeen the Chinese
Army and Korean civilians in areas where Chinese troops are stationed.
