The three shipyards which construct seagoing ships? 1`;;a mill t rn smar and Rostock, showed a loss of 15 to 17 million DL 1~ and 50X1-HUM Volkswerft Stralsund and K8penick together a loss of 12 to 14 million DME. These high lasses are caused by the long periods of inactivity at the shipyards caused by shortage of materials as well as the poor quality of the available material which has time and time again led to complaints about finished ships and made the reconstruction of completed ships necessary. There is a great difference in price be- tween the actual cost of building a snip and the cost fixed for re- parations delfiveries As a rn.ule, the reparations cost credited amount to about once-third of the actual production cost. Moreover.? the Russians are collecting large sums of money from the fines which shipyards have to pay if they do not meet the target date. The fine amounts to 0.1; per 50X1-HUM cent of the total cost of the object per day,. The ".arnemlinde and `'.ismar shipyards each had to pay about 8 pillion D: E in such fires ~f om~ ent, Lifeboats, spurt boats, etc. are omitted in all Lists of production figures quoted in this report.
