1. About one kilometer from Swidnica (S50/V87) on the left side of,the highway
to Walbrzych (Waldenburg), Soviet troops are garrisoned in modern-type
installations. Four of these large blocks are used as barracks; each block
contains about 50 rooms. The barracks area is surrounded by a high iron
fence with guards stationed on the highway sided Troops hold gymnastic
drills daily in a square across the street, facing the barracks.
2._ This Soviet infantry regiment is equipped with the following arms-, P. Sz
machine guns, Dehtariev light automatic rifles, heavy machine guns,'arLd
mortars.
3. The families of Soviet officers and non--commissioned officers are quartered
in the southern section of Swidnica. They have their own private stores
and workshops in order to avoid contacts with Poles.
i+. A Soviet military airbase is located at the northern end of Swidnica. The
southern part of this base borders the town.,; the highway to Wroclaw borders
the western part; and the northern sections point toward a sugar factory-
in Pszenno; (Weizenrodau - P51/H1,8). The Jaworzyna Slaska (Koenigszelt) -
Wroclaw (Breslau) railroad line. is located on the eastern part of this field.
5. The field has three small. hangars; there are no special auxiliary installations.
Usually five to ten planes (one or two-motor) can be observed. The airfield
is used as an air connection-with Soviet headquarters in idgnica (Liegnitz).
