1. The USSR has requested China to supply it with 3009000 tons of fresh fruit
during 19529 and China is attempting to comply. The fruits include apples, pears,
oranges, watermelons, loquats, peaches and fruit special to certain regions.

this fruit would provide China with foreign exchange of about US 30 to S1+0 million.l
The Ministries of Agriculture and Trade therefore are held jointly responsible
for issuing regulations to govern the production, compulsory sale to the govern-
ment, and shipment of this ft, and the Ministries are trying hard to fulfill
these responsibilities.
1. C21maent. Since US$30 million for 300,000 tons of fruit works
out to 6.50 a pound, it is probable one of these figures is incorrect.
