1> Plans are in course to turn Albania into a maritime country. This can only be
achieved with difficulty, since there is no maritime tradition and the human
material is lacking. East Germany i supplying engineers for port construction,
and instructors in seamanship. Czechoslovakia and Hungary are providing material
assistance on the understanding that they will eventually benefit from the in-
creased port facilities.
2. *-Nautical Institute has been opened in Durres. The course for those who have
passed secondary school lasts 18 months.
Apart from the construction of a new port at Himare, a port is under construction
at Naravasta.
