1. The former Hermann Goering Werke, now known as the Kedzierzwn. Plant, is,
according to available information, the largest chemical plant in Poland.
This plant is located in a completely forrested area and occupies a tract
of 20 square km. It is about 4 kfn. by rail from the town of Kedzierzyn
(Eeydebreck) to the..hitrogen plant, about 2.5 km. through the forest, and
about 5.5 km. via the highway. The plant is located along the railroad track
which runs in the direction of Raciborz (Ratibor) and along the highway which
runs in the direction. of Gliwice(Gleiwitz.). Beside the nitrogen plant are
the villages of Stare Kozle (Alt Cosel) and Bierawa. The entire nitrogen
plant area is fenced off by a high palisade of netting and barbed wire, and
in places, a :tple fence . Movement from one factory to another is
closely watched by the plant police, and even a worker cannot pass from one
area to another without a pass.
2. There are a number of entries into the nitrogen plant, and at each entrance
there is a gus d. Most and armed policemen. Within the plant there is a I3B
(Security Police) and MO (Citizens' Militia) post and around the plant, at
intefv is of about 200 m., -there are watchtowers in each of which is posted
a guard armed with a machine gun and equipped with a spotlight.
3. The plant is active for three shifts a day and employs about 5,000 workers.
Every nitrogen plant worker must be registered with the UB, A number of
Soviet engineers are employed in the plant, and it is often visited by Soviet
delegations. Synthetic rubber is-also produced there.

The factories themselves are about 50 percent demolished, byt; the Russians brought
in. a great number of machines during 1945. Up to 1950 about 20 percent of the
war damage had, been :repaired, and the complete reconstruction was plan Ined by the
Six Year Plano About ten different firms are working on the reconstruction.
There is a railroad spur inside the nitrogen plant, and there are about 400 youths
of the SP (Service to Poland) working on the reconstruction, Wit bin the plant
area there is a camp for the SP youths, an. a'thtetic field, a movie, a theater,
a -larege cafeteria, and a hotel.
