In July 1952, Scientific Technical Office No. 2 (NTB-2) at Dresden-Dobritz9
Breitscheidstrasse 76-789 was still subordinate to SAG Kabel, It was
unaffected by the return of many SAG concerns to the Germans in May 19520
Alexander Tikhanov (phonetic) was still head of NTB?2,
2. Pre-vac=7 pm- 1951
a, In 19519 NTB - 2 built 120 pre,-vac npumps0 These were exact copies of a
Leybold (KbeimBayental) model: they were 2-stage, 3-piston pumps, handling
5 m 3l/hour, The first 10 or so pumps were able to reach a vac m of 10- 4
millimeters of mercury (for); Later pumps could actually reach 10
millimeters of mercury?.(Tor),, although were not guaranteed to do so.
The order for these pumps was placed by Werk fbvw Fernmeldewesen HF
(SAG Kabel, Berlin-Oberschoenewe.ide9 Ostendstrasse 1-5) Werk HF sent NTB-2
an acceptance official to examine these pumps. The pumps, packed in
corrugated paper (i.e, not prepared for a long journey with rough handling)
were shipped by road to Werk HF0 Literature accompanying the pumps was
written in German only,
3. Pre,2_ izum m 19 2.
NTB-2 has already built and delivered another 90 of these pumps this year. They
are indentical to the 1951 models. They also went to Werk HF, Another 17 such
pumps are still in NTB-2 awaiting completion. About 40 of the pumps so far
delivered this year were without casings. It was understood in NTB-2 that they
were for incorporation in some other machine,

Small electric motors,
NT'B?2 was engaged in July 1952 in building 10 sample very small electric motors
(Kleinst m otoren) ranging in size from 0,2 (c, 5 W) 008 (c, 600?W), Casings
were to be of sheet steel. It was understood in NTB-2 that these were for
Kuznetsov fnu (phonetic) of MEP, the Russian Ministry for'the Electrical Industry,
5, Problems of underwater insulation.
as NTB.2 recently received anoral requests through Tikhanov9 from.C,H. Jaeger,
Leipzig (SAG AMO until May 1952- now under the Ministerium fuer Maschinenbau)
to study an underwater insulation problem, NTB.2 was given an electric motor
of 84 nun standard diameter and 220 mm overall length and asked to study its
underwater insulation, The motor was one suitable for using with under-
water pumps.
b. NTB?2 has so far tried using a double-lacquered wire supplied by the firm of
Ariadne,l Berlin, The inner part of the wire insulation is of iso-perlon,
1 mm. wire from Hettstedt has also been used: this has a 0,5 mm. copper core
and a thermo-plastic insulation. For the casing of the motors9 a bituminous
substance lice Siemen's type 992A, has been tried. Experiments on this
problem are continuing, 50X1-HUM
