A sample of nickel ore was obtained from a prQopecting mine near.hlahschnappel (N 51/K 45), Kreis Glauchau (N 51/K 35). The mining district's subdivided into five sections., i.e. Kuhschnappel-East, K;uhschnappel-West, Gallenberg (N '51 45) in the area of Nohenstein-Er'nstthal (N 51/K 55), N.iefernberg, and Limbach (N 51/K 56). 2. According to a report of Jube1t (fiu), geologist-in-charge, the district has the following geological structure: Prom 0 t 0.5 meters,-humus; from 0.5 to 3.5 meters - loamy out-lace layer; from 3.5 to 7 meters - lateritic layers, sial - as red rock rich in Fe20 and rich in loose soil; from 7 to 12 meters - sili.ciophi,le, partly rocky, ,par ly decomposed as sandy slack there are silicio- phite layers up to 0.5 meters thick; from 12 to 20 meters -'nickel chlorite. According to belt, the deposits are rich in nickel ore. Mining operations have already started in some regions and the deposits will allegedly fill the nickel requirements of East Germany for decades.
