THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1. In January 1952 there were approximately 700 political prisoners in the Plovdiv Departmental Prison. At the same time there were also approximately 400 criminal prisoners. 2., As of January 1952 a certain First Lieutenant Boyad^hiev, age 40, and a certain First Lieutenant ??Bai Kir?oa9, age 45, were the assistant directors of the prison. 3. The following men were inmates of the political section of the Plovdiv Depart- mental Prison in January 1952, and were transferred to the Pazar?dzhik Prison in May 1952: a. Emin Karayabukov, age 50, from Mogilitsa, Smolyan Okoliya; he was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for anti-Communist activity; b. Peycho Slavov Peychev, age 36, from Varna Okoliya; a State Security employee `before September 1944, he was sentenced to 15 years' Imprisonment for anti- Communist activity; he should be released during the autumn of 1952 (sic); 0. . ex-Lieutenant Colonel Stefan G-eorgiev Stefanov, age 48, from Kazanlik; he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1946 for anti-Commumist aetivitieL; and d. There were approximately 900 prisoners in the Pazardshik Prison in May 192. 1-5 The prison is two kilometers north of Pazard.zhik. It is a 2-story building approximately 65 by 15 meters and has a single-story wing which is app::?:~iT mately 35 by 20 meters. . The following men were inmates of the Pazard,zhik political prison in May 1952: Nayden Portunov, age 47, from Mrachenik, Karlovo Okoliya; a farmer who was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment; b. Georgi Gavazov, a partisan who is kept in solitary confinement (ad, Zavesat&?, Behind the Curtain); and, ??. Lieutenant Colonel Kostov, age 52, from the Botevgrad area, the former commanding officer of troops in Buse who was sentenced to 15 years' im- prisonment in 1945.
