receive more pay than other workers. All other mine personnel are Soviet and live
in Sofia.
Ore from the mines is loaded on freight cars at the Yana or Stolnik rail stations
on the Sofia-Makotservo railroad line and exported to the USSR.
The Sofia adtr n:istrative offices for the Bukhovo mines are located close together
in three large buildings. One 2-story and one a-story are adjacent at No. 10 Mic
No. 12 Vurbitsa Street; and one 2-story house with a garden is at No. 42 Oborishte
Street. All employees in these buildings are said to be Soviet.

Bukhcwo Uranium Mines
1, Soviet-operated urard.am mines are located at Bukhovo village, Novoseltsi district,
approximately-20 to 25 kilometers east of Sofia. The mines were discovered, but
not exploited, by the Germans prior to 19144..
2. The miners, all of whom are Bulgarian, live in the heavily guarded mine area and

One of the sources of electricity for Sofia is the thermoelectric power plant
which is located approximately 150 meters south of Kurilo (N1i250 E2319), Sofia
district.
The Stalin Dam is being built at the narrowest point on the Islur River, up-
stream from Pancharevo (NL235 E232Ii),9 Sofia district. The villages of Kalkovo,
Shishmanovo,and Gorni Pasarel are to be completely flooded and Dolni Pasarel
is to be partially floodedg it is believed that the villages will be evacuated
in 1953. A hydroelectric plant is located on the Iskar River at Pancharevo
village.
Medicine Factories
A State medicine factory is located on Antin I Street in Sofia, between Tsar
Simeon and Pirotaka Streets.
8. A medical laboratory which produces its on medicines is located on Lomska
Street between Kiril i Metodil and Tsar Simeon Streets in Sofia.
Ganpowder Plants
There are two gunpowder plants near Sofiap One is located four kilometers 50X1-HUM
south of Vladaya (N4238 E2312), 15 to 17 kilometers west of Sofia, at the foot
of Vitosha Mountain. Approximately 800 to 1,000 meters north of the gunpowder
factory is a cotton textile factory.
10. The second gunpowder plant, consisting of one small 2-story and several small
i-story buildings, is located on the edge of the Momkova Makhala quarter and
north of the Nadezhda quarter of Sofia. The factory is on the outskirts of Sofia
adjacent to the areas belonging to the Vrubnitsa, Mramor, and Mirovyane villages.
The only nearby buildings are shacks.
Ammunition Stores
11, In may 1951, an underground store of ammunition was located in a level field
along the So fia-Dragalevtsi (N1t238 E2319y read t wa ki2awters from' Sofia, Only two
small, inconspicuous buildings, which were under guard, were visible above
ground,
12. A large military ammunition store is located at a narrow point on the Sofia-
Plovdivr rail line approximately one and one-half kilometers south of Kostenets
(N1215 E2350), Ikhtlman district. The area Is heavily guarded and the stores
are said to be underground.
13. The rubber plant in K rilo village, Sofia district, is a 2- or 3-story building
which has a stack approximately 20 meters high. The-factory employs between 200
and 300 workers and manufactures hoses tires, boots, shoes, and shoe soles.

14. A paper mill occupying approximately two and one-half to three and one-half acres
of land and employing approximately 1,000 workers in three shifts is located sout:ri
of Sofia and north of Knyazhevo. It is east of the Sofia-Knyazhevo highway and
streetcar line, at the point where the streetcar line to Gorna Banya leaves the
highway and branches off toward the northwest.

l5. The mill was nationalized in 1917 and is managed completely by Bulgarian officcial ~;
there are no Soviet personnel. There is no railroad nearby and all transportation
is by track.
16. Large quantities of pine and beech logs are stored at the factory. Manufactured
products consist of writing paper, wrapping paper, cartons, bank-note paper, and
varieties of special paper.

So fia-Dragoman highway;
c. Cherrd.ja1 factory, cotton textile factory, and two unidentified factories,
located in Voenna Rampa on the Sofia-Vratsa-Vidin highway;
d. The Zebra Rubber Factory, located east of the Kurilo railroad station at
Svetovrachene village, Sofia district, on the Sofia-Vratsa-Vidin highway;
e. The Bakish Rubber Factory, located in Ilyantai village on the Sofia4Vratsa-
Vid-in highway;
f. A cement factory, adjacent, to the Patancvtsi railroad station on the Sofia-
Vratsa?Vidin high ay;
The A3en Zlatarov Chani-cal Factory and an unidentified tannery, located one
or one and one-half kilometers south of the Is ? railroad station on the
west ban of the IsI ? River;
h. A match factory and a paper mill, located near Kcstenets railroad station,
four kilometers north of K ;stenets village, Ilhtiman district; and
?. A rubber plant (see paragraph 13) and two unidentified factories, located
