THE REPRODUCTION OF THIS FORM IS PROHIBITED., 25X1 25X1 CLASSIFICATION Farms Controlled by the Ministry of Railroads,' Hwanghae Province 1a In mid-February 1952 the North Korean Ministry of Railroads established a farm in Yonbaek County near Pongnam-ni (126-09, 37-51+) (BS-1+99.8) at BS?5098 in order to furnish employment for 3,000 railroad employees who had been made idle because of paralyzed railroad facilities.. In mid-July 1952: there was. a national farm in Pyongyang at YD-31+20. Thirty- five milk cows, 15 farm oxen, 8 horses, and approximately 1+00 pigs were being raised there. Corn, sorghum, wheat, soy beans and bean cake were used as feed. Bean cake was brought in from Manchuria, and other fodder was being produced in Hwanglae and North . and South P,yongan Provinces. Employees at this farm comprised 15 clericalworkers'and 145 laborers, including 20 women. Forty of the laborers were discharged sol4prs who had been recruited from South Koref, by force, and 15 were members of the families of North Koreans who had cooperated with United Nations personnel during the United Nations occupation, and who were working on the farm to protect themselves from future security checks. Ninety of the workers were natives of North Korea and there were,~pproximately 90 Labor Party members among the a .ployees.. Clerical workers received an average monthly salary of 950 won and laborers 900 won. One chongpo equals 2.45 acres, In mid-September 1952 the Ministry of Agriculture of the'North Korean govern- ment was maintaining a cooperative dairy farm at Oryu,gol (l25rt15, 39.46) (XE. 9304) near' Chongju (125-13, 39-42) (XD..9096) Five-hundred head of cattle belonged to the farm, including 200 milk cows: and 300 bulls (sic,). All of these cattle had been obtained from a farm near P4yongyang, from where they had been, driven on toot for a period of 15 days during February 195?. In September,,..the cows were producing 60 mal of milk daily.5' Each anilk?producing cow was giving about 3 gallons of milk daily. The milk was boiibg transported by truck.twice Meekly to Sinuiju. The manager of the farm was KIM S i.-to (6855/2514/6670), aged 39, a resident of Kosong-ni (XDW785865). The manager had 5 office clerks. There were 82 laborers. The director received a monthly salary of 2,400 won,,: the clerks 1,200, and the laborers ap average. of 950.
