personnel who wore black-bordered blue epaulets with blue collar patches and
wings were given pilot training by Soviet instructors)-

During the period from late October through 21 lovember the field was
occupied by about 20 light trainers fitted with radial engines. Two-man crews
flew the trainers, The VP personnel were trained by Soviet instructors, Thus
far, take-offs and landings were practiced,, During bed weathers there was no
f]yin/-p and instruction was given on aircraft to an avera-ee of 300 to 350 men,,
In late October, a trainer crashed near the airfield killing a VP student pilot;
the flight instructor was injured, The plane was damaged heavilyo2
A total of about 550 men was employed for construction work on eight hangars and
