THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. Sanca Airfield is located 45 kilometers from Braila and is occupied by
Soviet formations. A railroad spur has been built from Braila to the
field. The airfield has its own electric generators and underground
hangars.
2. A new military airfield is being built near Turnu Severin.
Otopeni Airfield., located east of the Ploesti-Pipera road, is the air
defense base for the Ploesti oil fields and refineries. A Soviet
fighter regiment with 48 to 50 MIG-15's is stationed at the field. The
regiment is under the air division command at Bucharest. There are under-
ground munition depots and gasoline dumps.
4. The Calafat Airfield is occupied by units of the Rumanian Air Force. A
concrete runway was recently constructed.
5. A new airfield is now in use at Craiova. It has a concrete runway and
numerous hangars.
6. A modern military airfield is under construction near Arad.. It is being
built by Soviet personnel with the assistance of Rumanian forced labor.
It will have underground hangars and munition dumps, and is intended for
ni;tht and day operations.
