Jet planes havei'bpen,,observud flying over the Black Sea and alo~g the Bulgarian coast. These planes are based at the Burgas/Sarafovo airfield. For "some months," Soviet air officers in uniform; have been observed in Burgas. Their ranks run from lieutenant to colatel... These officers wear the same uniform as the Bulgarian officers and can be distinguished from them only when they speak. They usually move about in groups of two or three. In mid-autumn 1952, Soviet tank officers were first observed in the streets of Burgas. They moved about only in small groups and were accompanied by Bulgarian interpreters. These officers are quartered in the barracks formerly occupied by 24+ Infantry Regiment, in the eastern part of Burgas, on the edge of the sea and near the public park. Until recently an unidentified tank unit was also stationed at these barracks. However, it has now left Burgas to take part in maneuvers. This unit left in the direction of Malko Turnovo. There were allegedly two groups of 15 tanks each in the unit. No details were available regarding the tanks themselves. 1.
